Record-breaking temperatures have been scorching the U.S. this week, but a bit of relief is in sight

Temperatures in the triple digits have pounded much of the U.S. in recent weeks. In the seven-day span ending Thursday, 2,491 daily temperature records were broken and 176 all-time high temperatures were recorded across the country…

Today will be another scorcher in the East but relief is in sight. Parts of the Dakotas and the Great Lakes could see highs in the 70s and 80s today, a major break from temperatures over 100 degrees.

“For the most part by Sunday it breaks across the Midwest and across most of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic region,” Brian Korte, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, told USA Today.
