After hour 34 of labor, Liz is not smiling quite as much about this slogan as she did when we took this photo at hour 5.

One upside of waiting around for our darling baby to arrive—two days past due, and counting—is that Liz and I have cruised through the first season of Downton Abbey (or at least the first six episodes) in the last few nights, after we watched the last three episodes of this season’s Mad Men, after we crossed a bunch of DC restaurants off our bucket list last weekend…
Any suggestions for fun things to do in DC this weekend?

One advantage of this baby taking its sweet time to arrive is that Liz’s baking tempo has increased.

She made her not-yet-trademarked Liz’s Kickass Chocolate Chip Cookies last night or dessert, and I am also enjoying them as a swoon-worthy mid morning snack!

Monday morning pre-parenthood learning…
lickystickypickywe:

The Palmar Grasp ReflexWhat’s interesting about the palmar grasp reflex is that it is vestigial behavior.According to a study conducted in 1932, when a finger or similar object is placed in the palm of an infant, as many as 37% of them are able to grasp with enough power to support their own body weight were they to be suspended. (Interestingly, the reverse motion can be induced by stroking the back or side of the baby’s hand).
A similar grasping motion can be observed in the feet of infants. These behaviors typically persist until four or five months of age, and might have been useful to our hairier ancestors, who could have been clung to by their offspring while they were traveling.

Based on activity level, we think the baby’s first baseball game was enjoyable. And the Nats won, which is another good sign for bringing the baby back after, you know, he or she is born!

congrats!!! am I allowed to pimp my company here and say you should sign up for babycenter and download our apps? :)

Absolutely!  Liz gets the BabyCenter emails and I have the iPhone app. In fact, I think the baby is the size of an English hothouse cucumber this week!

Yes, that was my sly way of getting the baby news out to Tumblr!

Liz is due in mid-June, do now that we’re blog-public, you can expect plenty of questions (preparation, registry, etc.) for the parents out there, as well as general comments on the overwhelming inanity of the baby-industrial complex.
