I’m often a big fan of our home, but especially in rose season!

With a few simple ingredients that you probably already own—such as baking soda, white vinegar and lemon juice—it’s easy to substitute many store-bought cleaners with safe, eco-friendly options.
Just set up this new kitchen unit, a Christmas gift to Liz from her brother. Our storage space has increased and our counter space has nearly doubled!
But on the other hand, we moved about 300 books from our apartment into Liz’s new office, recycled 100 old magazines, and donated another 150 books (and a carload of old luggage, furniture and other assorted things) to Goodwill, in addition to taking out the Christmas tree and putting away the holiday decorations.
I guess the 65-degree weather meant that spring cleaning came early this year.
TweetIt’s not just color. A similar effect seems to hold for any light, airy space. In 2006, Joan Meyers-Levy, a marketing professor at the University of Minnesota’s school of management, studied the relationship between ceiling height and thinking style. She demonstrated that, when people are in a high-ceilinged room, they’re significantly better at seeing the connections between seemingly unrelated subjects. In one experiment, undergraduates came up with nearly 25% more connections between different sports, such as chess and basketball, when sitting in a loft-like space than in a room with an 8-foot ceiling. Instead of focusing on particulars, they were better able to zoom out and see what various things had in common.
Fascinating — this makes me even happier about the 9-1/2 foot ceilings in our apartment, and the floor-ceiling windows in our living room.

Four more sweet basil plants joined the back porch herb garden today. They should help with my pesto addiction all summer long!
Spring kitchen cleaning discovery: we have a lot of whole grains in our apartment. Now in a easier to find arrangement.
