“Our only wish, to catch a fish, so juicy sweet!”

New Zealand-based special effects wizards from Weta Workshop installed this incredibly awesome 13 meter (43 foot) Gollum statue inside Wellington Airport in New Zealand to promote the upcoming release of the first installment of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy of The Hobbit.

Gollum appears to be smiling as he attempts to catch himself a tasty fish while looming over travelers who are themselves having a bite to eat. You can even see a few bubbles emerging from Gollum’s mouth, which can only mean one thing: Surprise travelers! Your airport is underwater and you didn’t even know it.

Watch video of the installation of one of J. R. R. Tolkien’s most memorable characters here.

DIY Hobbit House, on a budget.

earthboundmisfit:

man has built a hillside home reminiscent of a hobbit house from JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings — on a budget of just £3,000.

Simon Dale constructed the woodland home for his family in Wales, taking only four months to fully complete the project with help from his father-in-law. Built with “maximum regard for the environment” it contains a cosy living room, an open-plan kitchen and a split-level bedroom area. The home is also adorned with fairy lights and wooden furniture to complete the look.

"I had to find a voice that sounded like someone ‘golluming.’ I wanted this sense that his body is controlled by [the ring] so that it’s an involuntary action that was making him sound like this. I looked to one of my cats, Diz, who came in while I was working on the character and coughed up a furball. This became really interesting to me because you watch a cat throwing up a furball and it’s like the whole body writhes from the tip of the neck to the tip of the tail and convulses. And you see this ripple goes down its spine."

Isn’t That Precious: Andy Serkis explains how he created the voice for Gollum. (via nprfreshair)

Posting because it reminds me of some of the sounds I’ve made in the last 24 hours, fighting a bad cough!

We saw One Man Lord of the Rings last night at Woolly Mammoth Theatre.  If you liked the movies or books, you will love this lightning-paced hilarious one-man show, which takes you through all three movies in 65 minutes.
He has three more shows (two today, and one tomorrow), so DC folks looking for weekend plans, don’t miss it!

Your daily dose of Lord of the Rings-meets-Flight of the Conchords trivia you didn’t even know you needed to know: Who is Figwit?

Figwit refers to an unnamed elf extra in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, played by actor and musician Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords and The Black Seeds fame. The name Figwit was derived by fans as an acronym for “Frodo is great who is that?!?”, a phrase coined by fan Iris Hadad. (via mu-ray:flipyeahflightoftheconchords:readmorewikipedia)

I must say, Bret, it’s not quite as fetching a look as your Christmas sweaters.
