This Airedale terrier’s coat has been groomed and decorated to resemble not just one, but a whole assortment of characters from The Muppets, including Kermit, Gonzo, Animal, and Miss Piggy. Photographer Ren Netherland has travelled across the US to conventions that showcase creative dog grooming.

We aren’t sure which part is most unsettling: the fact that Gonzo’s nose is the dog’s tail or that Miss Piggy is missing her distinctive snout altogether. As dog grooming goes, this is a pretty awesome spectacle.

What kind of Muppet are you, chaos or order? - Slate Magazine
It’s not that any one type of Muppet is inherently better than the other. (Order Muppets do seem to attract the ladies, but then Chaos Muppets collect the chicken harems.) It’s simply the case that the key to a happy marriage, a well-functioning family, and a productive place of work lies in carefully calibrating the ratio of Chaos Muppets to Order Muppets within any closed system. That, and always letting the Chaos Muppets do the driving.

"The Muppets don’t get laughs at other people’s expense. It’s part of what I really loved about the Muppets. They don’t even want to destroy their villains. They want to reform their villains."

It’s time to put on makeup, it’s time to dress up right – The Muppets could be returning to television in a new primetime series.

US broadcaster NBC has ordered scripts for a new series about a family who live in Palm Springs and discover their new neighbours are The Muppets. A new Muppets film – the first for a decade - is about to open in the US and is due out in the UK in February.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Muppet TV series being developed for NBC is called The New Nabors and is being made Jim Henson Studios in association with Universal Television. It will be written by 30 Rock executive producer John Riggi and John Hoffman, who will also executive produce alongside Jim Henson’s daughter Lisa.

The hit show – which mixes live action with puppets – was originally created out of characters in another Jim Henson show, Sesame Street.

Hmmm…

This could be worth a visit, although after watching the GU-Kansas midnight game tonight, I’m not sure how much I’ll have left in the tank!

"It doesn’t take long for a kid to watch the Muppets before they fall in love with them. Because I’ll tell you, there’s a visceral difference with the Muppets and CGI. You could touch Kermit; he exists in our world. You could potentially meet Kermit. But you’ll never meet Shrek; he lives in a computer. I saw a little girl hug Kermit [on set], and then we started filming a minute later and she was sitting behind the monitors, this like 7-year-old girl, and she screamed out, “That’s my friend! I know him.” I think that’s the difference when it comes to Muppets. But the last Muppet movie was twelve years ago. This generation, from zero to 12, they’ve grown up with no Muppet movie in their lives and that just seemed crazy to me, because it really influenced who I wanted to be."

How I Met Your Muppet

GQ’s Lauren Bans cuts through the crap to deliver a serious interview with Muppet rebooter Jason Segel and his legendary leading man. Click here to read all of it.

It’s been twelve years since Kermit’s last big-screen movie. People were starting to wonder if he’d had a breakdown. Kermit: You know, it’s a funny thing. It may have been twelve years in people years, but for frogs that’s only about eight months.
Jason Segel: It was a short hiatus for you, basically.
Kermit: Plus, a lot of my fans actually live under rocks.
GQ: Speaking of living on a different timescale, are you immortal?Kermit: I don’t think so!
Jason Segel: I must say, though, I understand her question, because you’re looking just as good as you did twenty years ago. You’re holding up fantastically.
GQ: Amen. Botox?Kermit: No, no, I haven’t had any work done, exactly. It’s just good clean swamp living. It’s one of those places where you can get away from it all.

Looking forward to the new Muppet movie (ever since the vampire musical in Forgetting Sarah Marshall), but scared that I’ll be disappointed by it!

life: Ray Charles + Kermit the Frog — Not a bad way to start your Friday, right?

Ray Charles gets a better understanding of Kermit the Frog on the “Cher” show in 1975. Charles appeared on a TV tribute to the late Jim Henson in 1990, where he said Henson “took a simple song and a piece of felt and turned it into a moment of great power,” then performed “It’s Not Easy Being Green.”

Meet The New Muppet of the Day: Sesame Street is set to add a new member to its roster of friendly, fuzzy characters: Lily, the 7-year-old “food insecure” Muppet.
Lily — who represents the 17 million children for whom access to food is uncertain — will be introduced to viewers during an upcoming Sesame Street special about hunger in America.
“We thought long and hard about how do we really represent this from a child’s point of view?,” said Sesame Workshop’s senior vice president for outreach and educational practices Jeanette Betancourt. “We felt it was best to have this new Muppet take this on in a positive way and a healthy way.”
Everything from Lily’s clothing to her voice and mannerism has been geared towards making her as realistic and empathetic as possible. “She wants to talk about this topic,” says Betancourt, ““because she knows it will help many other families and children, but it isn’t an easy topic to talk about in the first place.”
“Growing Hope Against Hunger” is scheduled to air this Sunday on PBS.
